The Bayelsa State Police Command has apprehended a key suspect involved in the brutal killing of the former Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division, Rivers State, Late SP Bako Angbashim.
According to a statement issued on November 18 by CSP Buswat Asinim, the spokesperson for the command, the arrested individual is identified as Onyekachi Ikowa, aged 43.
Ikowa, who holds the position of the second in command to TuBaba within the notorious Icelander cult group, was taken into custody in Yenagoa.
The arrest was made following credible intelligence that indicated Ikowa had been hiding in the city after actively participating in the heartless murder of Late SP Bako Angbashim in September 2023.
In response to this development, Commissioner of Police for the Bayelsa State Command, CP Francis Iduh, has urged Police Operatives to identify and apprehend any associates of the suspect who might be concealing themselves in Bayelsa State. CP Iduh emphasized that the Bayelsa Command, under his leadership, will not serve as a safe haven for criminals.
It was previously reported that suspected cultists fatally shot SP Bako Angbashim on September 8. The late police officer and his team had engaged in a fierce gun battle with a notorious cult leader known as "Tubaba." Unfortunately, they reportedly ran out of ammunition, prompting the policemen to tactically retreat. In the course of their withdrawal, SP Bako, who had sustained bullet wounds, was captured by the cultists. A gruesome video, believed to be released by the cultists, showed the dismembered remains of Mr. Bako, accompanied by a voice mocking him.
