In a recent legal development, the Ondo State Police have brought charges against Olulayo Moroloye, a 33-year-old man, at the Akure Magistrate Court.
The accusations stem from an alleged attempt by Olulayo to kill his brother, Daniel Moroloye, using a cutlass.
The defendant, whose residence details were not disclosed, is facing charges of attempted murder and assault resulting in grievous bodily harm.
The incident is said to have taken place on October 10, 2023, around 9:00 pm at Kidimo Camp, Ode-Irele.
According to the police prosecutor, Folashade Adeyemi, Olulayo purportedly attacked Daniel with a cutlass on their farm.
The assault resulted in a deep injury to Daniel's left hand. The charges brought against Olulayo are in violation of Sections
320 and 332(1) of the Criminal Laws of Ondo State.During the court proceedings, the defendant did not enter a plea. The prosecutor requested that Olulayo be remanded in the Olokuta Correctional Centre until guidance is received from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
In response, the defendant's lawyer, Israel Tiwo, sought an adjournment to allow time for filing a counter affidavit to the application.
Notably, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Asabi, had previously announced Olulayo Moroloye's arrest alongside other suspects. CP Asabi stated that the accused claimed his brother accused him of stealing palm fruit, leading to a heated argument.
Allegedly, in a fit of anger, Olulayo used a sharpened cutlass to inflict severe harm on his brother's left arm before fleeing into the bush. The suspect was apprehended a few days after the incident.
The legal proceedings will continue as the court assesses the charges against Olulayo Moroloye in this disturbing case of familial violence.
