A tragic accident on the night of Halloween, October 31, 2023, claimed the life of Taraja Ramsess, a renowned actor and stuntman known for his work in blockbuster films like "Black Panther" and "The Avengers." The devastating crash also resulted in the loss of three of his beloved children, including a newborn daughter.
Taraja Ramsess, 41 years old, was driving a vehicle filled with his children when the accident occurred. Their car collided with a broken-down tractor-trailer on a highway exit in DeKalb County, Georgia.
In the aftermath of the horrific accident, Taraja's family confirmed the heartbreaking news that his 13-year-old daughter Sundari, 10-year-old son Kisasi, and his eight-week-old daughter Fugibo tragically lost their lives. Taraja and his daughters perished in the crash on that fateful Tuesday night, while son Kisasi was rushed to the hospital.
Tragically, four days after the accident, Taraja's grandmother confirmed that 10-year-old Kisasi succumbed to his injuries. There is, however, a glimmer of hope as his three-year-old daughter, Shazia, survived the crash and is currently in the hospital, recovering from minor injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still shrouded in uncertainty, as authorities have yet to determine the cause.
Taraja Ramsess was not only an actor but also a skilled stuntman, having contributed to films like "Avengers: Endgame" and "Avengers: Infinity War." He had an extensive filmography, boasting 78 credits listed on IMDb, including numerous roles in the art department for films such as "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "Fast & Furious 7."
Taraja's passing left a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His mother, Akili, shared her sentiments in a heartfelt post, saying, "All who knew and met him know how special Taraja was. He had a deep capacity for love and loved his children more than all. He loved his martial arts, motorcycles, and all things related to filmmaking. He had a very droll yet wicked sense of humor and could be as corny as can be." Akili also mentioned that all of her son's remarkable qualities would live on in Sundari, who was affectionately called "Sunny" by her family. She shared poignant pictures of Taraja beaming with pride while surrounded by his children, expressing her disbelief at their untimely departure.
Ava DuVernay, an award-winning filmmaker, paid tribute to the talented stuntman in a heartfelt Instagram post. She described Taraja as "regal" and highlighted his remarkable character. "He walked like a king and, to me, always acted like one," she wrote. "Taraja was the first to say yes. Yes, I'll do my real job and then jump into this wild scene playing a tough guy with a gun for you. From there, everyone else said yes too. He was that kind of person. Bless his soul. Bless his memory. Bless his loved ones and the many comrades he leaves here as he journeys on."
