Today, on November 7, Guinness World Records made a significant announcement, crowning Alan Fisher from Ireland as the new world record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Fisher's remarkable culinary feat extended to an impressive 119 hours and 57 minutes, eclipsing the previous record holder, Hilda Baci, by more than 24 hours.
But Alan's ambition didn't stop there. He immediately shifted his focus to the world of baking, taking on the challenge of securing another record. His baking marathon spanned 47 hours and 21 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by Wendy Sandner, an American who had set a time of 31 hours and 16 minutes.
What makes Fisher's achievement even more astounding is that he undertook both endeavors consecutively, showcasing his exceptional dedication to his craft. As per Guinness World Records, Alan spent over 160 hours working tirelessly in the kitchen, with just a little over a day's rest in between these record-breaking attempts.
Upon hearing the news of her dethronement, Hilda Baci, the former record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, took to Twitter to share her thoughts. She extended her congratulations to Alan Fisher, expressing her admiration for his remarkable accomplishment.
She tweeted, "Huge congratulations to Alan Fisher! 119hrs 57mins is a huge achievement, and I wish him all the best as the new world record holder!" She went on to share her gratitude for having held a title of such prestige and the tremendous support she received during her record-breaking journey.
For context, Hilda Baci began her Cook-a-Thon on May 11, 2023, and continued through May 15, 2023. Guinness World Records officially recognized her as the record holder in June 2023, which means she held the title for less than five months before Alan Fisher's extraordinary achievements took center stage.
