Bodycam footage reveals police opening a closet and making a startling discovery behind a secret door.
In a riveting turn of events captured on bodycam footage, Arkansas police unveiled a shocking secret hidden behind a closet door. The video documents the unfolding of this disturbing incident as it transpired on November 2nd.
The footage begins with Arkansas law enforcement officers being guided to the closet by an individual dressed in overalls, identified as Jon Thompson, aged 40. With a sense of anticipation, Thompson opens a concealed door, leading them into a small, hidden room where a child was discovered.
To reach this hidden chamber, Thompson had to navigate through an assortment of items that blocked the secret door's access. Despite the obstacles, they successfully retrieved the 5-year-old girl who was found unharmed. The child was swiftly taken into the care of the Department of Human Services, ensuring her safety and well-being.
The following day, Jon Thompson, a resident of Tontitown, Arkansas, was apprehended and now faces a slew of criminal charges. Detective Keith Lindley, recounting the ordeal, noted that the young girl emerged from her concealment emotionally distraught and quite frightened. She had been instructed by Thompson to remain silent and not disclose her presence in the hidden room.
Thompson now confronts charges including interference with custody, first-degree false imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a minor, and possession of body armor and drug paraphernalia, as reported by The Washington County Jail Intake.
The Tontitown police had been assisting Department of Human Services officials in the child's custody transfer when they attempted to contact Thompson. Initially, Thompson asserted that a judge had granted him custody of the child, refused to open the front door, and denied the child's presence at the residence.
However, as events unfolded, Thompson finally admitted that the child was indeed in the home. He directed the police to the concealed closet where they could hear noises emanating from within. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Thompson had hidden the child behind a board that was securely nailed to the wall. Some boxes had to be moved to access the hidden compartment, as evidenced by photographs from the scene.
At the time of his arrest, Jon Thompson was already on bond for unrelated charges in Benton County, specifically, related to a methamphetamine charge in a neighboring city. He was booked at the Washington County Jail on November 3rd and subsequently released on November 6th after posting a $5,000 bond.
The next court date for Thompson is scheduled for December 4th, where further details about the case are expected to emerge, shedding light on the motivations behind this troubling incident.
