Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Ordered to be Detained in Kuje Prison by Court

Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has issued an order for the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to be held in Kuje prison until the determination of his bail request.

During today's trial on November 17, the court decided that Emefiele would remain in custody until November 22, when his bail application would be considered.

The application for bail was presented by his lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, while Rotimi Oyedepo, representing the Federal Government, strongly opposed it.

Following arguments from both sides, Justice Muazu explained that a prompt bench ruling could not be given due to the numerous legal references cited by the parties involved.

The judge expressed the need for some time to thoroughly examine the authorities presented and review Emefiele's grounds for seeking bail.
