Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level student majoring in Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, has been placed in prison following his arrest in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Justina Nkang.
During the court proceedings on Monday, November 13, the prosecution filed a request for remand, urging the court to place Damian in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and forward the case file to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for future guidance.
The defense counsel did not contest this application.
In her ruling, Magistrate Obiageri Anugbum acknowledged the gravity of the accusations and ordered Damian's remand in prison custody. She also directed the transfer of the case file to the DPP's office. Additionally, she scheduled the next court hearing for December 15, 2023, for legal advice.
