Release of Kidnapped INEC Officer in Bayelsa State


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed the release of a Supervisory Presiding Officer who was abducted at the Amassoma jetty in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The incident occurred on the eve of the governorship election.

Wilfred Ifogah, the Head of the Department of Voter Education and Publicity at the INEC office in Bayelsa State, provided assurance in a statement that the liberated victim is in good condition. 

He expressed gratitude to everyone who played a role in ensuring the safe release and return of the officer.

In an earlier report, INEC had disclosed the abduction of one of its Supervisory Presiding Officers in Bayelsa State on Friday. 

The officer, assigned to Registration Area – 06 (Ossiama) in Sagbama LGA, was taken while awaiting boarding at the Amassoma jetty. INEC promptly notified security agencies of the incident.
