Lateef Fagbemi, Nigeria's Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has sent a request to the UK's Crown Prosecution Services for the immediate extradition of former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke.
This request, made at the direction of President Bola Tinubu, followed a formal request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the AGF's office.
The extradition request is based on Nigeria's Extradition Act and a multilateral treaty known as "The Scheme" governing extradition between the UK and Nigeria. The EFCC established a case against Allison-Madueke, leading to a warrant of arrest and the extradition request. However, the delay in her extradition is due to ongoing review by UK authorities, and it depends on the UK's legal processes and international considerations.
