The distressing saga began about a week ago when John was declared missing, prompting concerned individuals to report the matter at the Obantoko Police Station in Abeokuta. According to an anonymous resident of the area, John vanished after attempting to visit a customer who regularly conducted POS transactions in a shop where the boy assisted. Sadly, he never returned.
The resident shared insights into the boy's background, noting that John lived with his mother, who seemed to be involved in menial jobs such as sweeping for others. Despite attending school, John was also known to lend a hand at a business center where POS operations and barbing services were offered. The resident speculated that the boy might have been helping out at the center. It was reported that on the fateful Thursday of the disappearance, John expressed his intention to check on a customer involved in POS transactions, but he never came back.
The matter was reported to the Community Development Association by residents of Olasunkanmi community, where John and his mother lived. The association, in turn, notified the District Police Officer at Obantoko Station, who informed the police at Adigbe and Lafenwa. Shockingly, the boy's lifeless body was discovered in Kotogbo community, adjacent to Olasunkanmi, on Monday. The two communities are situated within Asero Estate, Abeokuta. The nature of the gruesome discovery has led to suspicions of ritualistic motives, as the boy's eyes were missing, and his wrists were severed.
As of now, the state police command has not issued any comments on this tragic development, leaving the community in mourning and seeking answers to the disturbing circumstances surrounding John Soyinka's untimely demise.
