The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Kogi State governorship election held on November 11, Dino Melaye, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a thorough review of the recently concluded polls within the next seven days.
During an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Melaye, who secured the third position in the election dominated by Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged various irregularities such as mutilation, over voting, and voter suppression.
Melaye expressed concern about the integrity of the election results, stating, "The declaration of Yahaya Bello’s ally as the winner was based on mutilated results. INEC is aware that certain local government results were fabricated before the election took place."
Highlighting the widespread issues, he remarked, "This was a pervasive problem across the local governments. Seventeen local governments in Kogi State experienced instances of over voting.
We have formally submitted our petitions to INEC, providing evidence this afternoon. Our expectation is that INEC will review these petitions within the next seven days. In a just society, silence is considered a crime."
Melaye reiterated his demand for the cancellation of the election in five specific local government areas in Kogi State. He asserted, "INEC must annul the election results in the five local governments of Kogi central.
The electoral process in Okene, Okehi, Ajaoukuta, Adavi, and Ogori/Mangogo is a fraudulent scheme orchestrated at the highest echelons of INEC."
