"Colombian Rebel Group to Release Father of Liverpool's Luis Diaz After Abduction"

The father of Liverpool football star, Luis Diaz, is expected to be released 'as soon as possible,' according to a representative of the rebel group that abducted him in Colombia.

Luis Manuel Diaz and his wife, Cilenis Marulanda, were kidnapped by armed

individuals on motorcycles in the town of Barrancas, La Guajira, on October 28. While Marulanda was released hours later, the search for her husband continues.

On Thursday, the Colombian government revealed that Diaz Sr. had been taken captive by the left-wing rebel group known as the National Liberation Army (ELN), with whom a delegation has been engaged in peace talks. Otty Patino, who leads the negotiations, demanded the immediate release of Mr. Luis Manuel Diaz and stressed that the ELN is entirely responsible for ensuring his safety and well-being.

Recent reports indicate that a representative of the ELN has stated that the group intends to free the footballer's father 'as soon as possible.' Meanwhile, the military is actively conducting search operations, and a £39,000 reward has been offered for any information leading to his safe return.

Colombia international and Liverpool star, Diaz, used his Instagram platform to call on the community to join a march demanding the safe release of his father. His post encouraged everyone to "bring your candle to light the light of hope," featuring a picture of his father with the caption, "Free him now." Consequently, Diaz, who joined Liverpool from Portuguese side Porto in January 2022, withdrew from the squad set to play against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
